Challenging city-building board game

Tile Titans is a premium strategy game from Peepod Inc. This game tasks you with building your city in its sprawling board game format. The challenge is that you’re not alone: players take turns developing tech and placing buildings on the map. Victory points are generated by placing resource tiles.

While the premise is straightforward, the city-building and resource management mechanics explore planning and scarcity concepts, making every game immersive and unique. Graphics-wise, it features simple 3D graphics. It looks like Clash of Clans, but with strategic potential inching closer to Civilization V, so manage your difficulty expectations.

Build the best city possible

In Tile Titans, each player gets six coins each turn. You then check out the Marketplace and see which tiles are available for purchase. Over 30 unique tiles are available, ranging from Farms and Barracks to special buildings like the Beacon of Winter. Each tile costs five coins on the first round and reduces in cost with every turn that they’re not bought—adding another strategic aspect to the game.

Aside from getting the best tiles with your budget, you must also keep an eye on the resources you generate: food, wood, stone, or soldiers. The layered strategy gameplay aside, it features a cute aesthetic reminiscent of idle city-building games on mobile. Each tile appears so small compared to its respective block, yet everything is in full 3D. It even has matching and relaxing background music to keep you company.

It’s also worth noting that there are different tilesets available. There are plains, forests, and mountains that offer extra variety. Of course, the main challenge with this game is the learning curve. By combining different strategy subgenres, it creates a new experience. With it, however, original challenges make the game confusing. However, it’s quite enjoyable once you get the hang of it.

An unusual strategy experience

Overall, Tile Titans is infinitely enjoyable to the right audience. It tests your planning, organizational, and resource management abilities in order to create the best city and win the game. Plan your layout, build tile combos, and purchase at the right time—all to gain the advantage. With a matching visual and sound design, this is a thoroughly enjoyable game once you get past the steep learning curve.
